Cage diving in Mossel Bay, the gateway to South Africa’s beloved Garden Route, is a breathtaking and educational experience that you should definitely not miss. The anchoring spot is only a short ride from the harbour in this sheltered bay. The water here is relatively warm and on a nice day, it’s not uncommon for most cage divers to opt-out of the wetsuits and cage dive in their bathing costumes. , Remember to book early because only one boat launches from Mossel Bay. Recent sightings include several consecutive days during March of two to four great white sharks per trip frequenting the boat.

Cape Town

Shark cage diving in Cape Town, South Africa, takes place from Simon’s Town, a 45-minute drive from the airport. After a complete drop-off in Great White Shark sightings from this location during 2019, we are happy to report that 2 great white shark sightings took place during 2020. These are sporadic but is perhaps a sign that the great white sharks will soon be back in higher numbers. Currently you can look forward to cage diving with 7-gill broadnose cow sharks and en route back to the harbour you have the opportunity to snorkel safely with seals outside the cage.

There is no doubt that Gansbaai, South Africa, is the great white shark capital of the world. Recent years has seen a decline in sightings however thus far into 2020 Great white shark sightings have been increasing alongside that of the amazing Copper shark also know as the Bronze Whaler shark.

Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay lies in the beautiful Garden Route. The bay is very protected and great white shark trips take place here daily as weather permits. The water here is warmer than in Gansbaai and Simon’s Town making it possible to dive without a wetsuit on nice days.

Cape Town

Trips depart from Simon’s Town in False Bay, a mere 45 minutes’ drive from the city centre of Cape Town. It is here that the famous Air Jaws flying or rather breaching great white shark documentary was made.



From the small town of Umkomaas, near Durban, you can get into a cage (or without) and snorkel with sharks such as the blacktip, spinner sharks, white tip sharks and, for the lucky ones, perhaps the bull shark and tiger shark during the December to March seasons.
