Why Book With Apex?
Apex Shark Expeditions offers the smallest group size of any shark diving operation in South Africa. A whopping 40% of all Apex guests are repeat guests, quite possibly the highest repeat rate in the industry!
What this means for you:
– An educational experience where guides will interact with you as an individual.
– Longer time and less guests in the cage on average per person of any shark operation.
– Lots of space to be able to see and photograph the sharks from a specially designed vessel that offers both high and low photographic options.
– More flexibility for us to spend time looking at other marine wildlife.
Incl: Light breakfast and lunch, all equipment, towels, drinks & snacks on board.
All crew are highly qualified Skippers & Divemasters. They are also trained as paramedics.
THE BOAT & EQUIPMENT
The boat is the first of its kind. Designed specifically for shark cage diving, she is built for stability, speed, safety and comfort. The vessel can comfortably accommodate 40 passengers however trips are usually limited to 35 plus crew.
Facilities include designated toilets for males and females, a staircase on either side of the boat provides easy access and a smooth flow of traffic to the upper viewing deck. A canvas dressing cubicle for guests who prefer privacy. (Upon request)
A securely designed steel cage is used, which floats on the surface, with divers no more than 1m below the surface. The cage accommodates 7 -8 guests on a rotational basis. All dives are breath-hold which is comfortable and safe – NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
Apex operates half day shark tours ALL YEAR round to either Seal Island or Cape Point as both offer very different opportunities and visibility. Possible shark species can include Seven Gill Sharks, Mako Sharks, Blue Sharks and Great White Sharks.
The location for the day will be determined by the best shark activity and sea conditions and will be confirmed with you the day before your trip.
Whales, dolphins and many species of seabirds are often encountered on this adventurous expedition. As Apex adopts an eco-system style of operating their trips, going to sea with Apex is like going on a safari game drive and they will try to take in as much marine wildlife as possible on their trips.
The departure point, Simon’s Town, is only 45 minutes from Cape Town, 15 minutes from the Cape of Good Hope and only 2 minutes from Boulders Beach Penguin Colony.
