Shark Cage Diving Cape Town

Shark Cage Diving in Cape Town, South Africa is available daily, all year round, weather permitting.

Shark boats launch from Simon’s Town in False Bay, an easy and scenic 45-minute drive from the V&A Waterfront.

During 2020 shark cage diving mostly takes places on scuba or snorkel and the shark species we see the most right now is the Broadnose 7-Gill Cow Shark that reaches a magnificent 3 meters in size! Even though these cow sharks are thought to reach an average age of 50 years old, they bring the historic look and drama of the extinct Megalodon shark whom it is thought to be a distant family of. Board our boat you will have the shark adventure of a lifetime! Remember to request scuba upon booking.

Will you see Great White Sharks in Simon’s Town, Cape Town?

As Great White Shark sightings have decreased rapidly during 2019, we have experienced an increase in the number of other shark species that visit our boat such as copper sharks and 7-gill broadnose cow shark. We are happy to report a few sporadic great white shark sightings during 2020 and we hope that this means the Great White Sharks will soon be back patrolling our waters in larger numbers again. You might be the next happy diver to cage dive with a great white shark in False Bay, or you may not. Great white shark sightings are not guaranteed in Cape Town, however, your chances of diving with a variety of other species is good. For recent sightings, we invite you to contact us.

Simon’s Town, Shark Cage Diving & Viewing Tour

Location: Simon’s Town, Cape Town, South Africa (45 minutes drive from Cape Town City Central.
Season: All Year | Historically the Great White Shark Season Varies between mid-January to mid-October

The Shark Cage Dive: The shark cage comfortably takes 5 divers at a time, yet can take maximum 6 whenever required. We mostly work on a breath-hold system in the cage as visibility is often limited and contact time with the animals underwater only lasts a few seconds at a time. The great white sharks rarely come close to the cage when scuba is used,. The team on the vessel can see the sharks, how they move and along these lines, they can guide you to be looking in the correct direction at the right time for the best sightings.

A hookah scuba system is available for qualified scuba divers

The air system is especially extraordinary when visibility is more than 6m as the cage divers can follow the shark as it circles the boat. *Hookah scuba just available pre-booking request. It would be ideal if you mention this when making a booking.

The Boat: A maximum of 18 guests onboard

Dive depth: Surface cage

Water temperature: 14–18 º C

Water visibility:  3–20 meters

Other possible species on this expedition:  Cape Fur Seal, Common Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, Brydes Whale, Southern Right Whale, African Penguin and various other sea birds

Mission Statement

We believe that we can make a difference by showing people a positive experience with sharks. We don’t believe in misrepresenting them as potential killers for an adrenalin experience to sell tours. We do believe that sharks should be respected as the critically important predators they are.

Non-Diver’s are Welcome

You don’t even have to climb in the cage to get a good view as many of the sharks swim at the surface and some even pop their heads out to have a look at you. Join us as we head out!
