Great White and Copper Shark Cage Diving
Meet one of nature’s most feared predators, the Great White Shark, right here in Gansbaai, South Africa, known as the Capital or Mecca of the Great White Shark.
All shark trips launch from the Kleinbaai harbour just outside Gansbaai. We meet between 7 am, and 11 am however times remain flexible as we work with the weather and tides. You can join us at our crew house in Kleinbaai, or we can collect you from your Cape Town or Hermanus hotel. Transport is an additional cost. On arrival at our crew house, you can enjoy a light, non-greasy breakfast while you listen to the safety and cage dive briefing. The boat launches shortly after and stays on the sea for about 2 ½ to 3 hours.
A typical Cage Dive in Gansbaai
When the sharks, great whites or copper sharks, are comfortable around the boat, we lower the cage into the water and get the first set of divers ready. Five to eight divers enter the cage at one time with the lid closed.
You do not need a scuba qualification to cage dive.
Shark cage diving is easy because all you need to do is hold your breath and pull yourself under the water for a couple of seconds at a time to have a good look at the sharks as they pass. The group is rotated after a dive time of about 20 minutes. On most days everyone can dive again because some passengers on the boat choose not to dive at all.
March 2020 produced some amazing great white shark sightings in Gansbaai.
Return to shore
After roughly 2 ½ hours on sea we lift the cage and head back to shore. Upon arrival at the crew house enjoy a hot cup of coffee and warm showers. Enjoy lunch while watching your day’s filmed DVD, optional to purchase on the day.
